The Brief.

Unit One Architects were commissioned by Martin & Barry Partnership, in order to look at a proposal for the change of use of an A3 use class category fast food chicken shop to an A2 Estate Agent office. The proposal included a single storey extension to the rear of the property that will provide additional office floor space in the proposed estate agent.

The Proposal.

The site sits within the Brixton conservation area and therefore the original shop front details were retained where possible. The pilasters and corbels were refurbished and painted black with a new traditional timber frontage reinstated.

The ground floor was raised to accommodate a meeting area and staff facilities at basement level, and trimmed back at the front to create a lightwell to allow natural light from the large shop windows to flood into the basement.

To the rear an extension was added to increase the accommodation and as well as the light to this section of the office.  A large roof light was added with folding-sliding doors that lead onto a small terrace.

“We were delighted with the design that the Unit One team put together for our new office, and with the continuing support that was given to us and our builders while the project was being built. These situations can often be very stressful but we found the help & professional guidance offered during this time invaluable.”
