key description: restoration & rebuilding of an original Victorian bakehouse in a conservation area into 2 modern homes
year: 2007 – 2009
client: Phillips Build
borough: Dacorum Borough Council, Hertfordshire
An 1850’s brick bake-house in the Tring Triangle conservation area is carefully demolished, the bricks re-sued and then rebuilt in order to replicate exactly the original. The building was so derelict that it could not be retained so extensive details were taken of it and the lime mortar cleaned from the brick and then painstakingly the Craftsmen builders put the property back together.
Planning was gained for a change of use from commercial storage into 2 residential maisonettes by Unit one Architects. The properties were retained by the builder developer as long term rental investments.
